I’ve been a Ferrari fan for about 20 years, ever since Nigel Mansell was brought in to race for the Scuderia in 1989. This started a long and wonderful love life with the emotion and energy that is an automobile which is exclusive as the 1961 Ferrari 250GT California Spyder. Simply put this is beauty in perfection. There are many other great GTs out there, but none excite me in the way this car does.
The 250 GT California Spyder had a 280-horsepower V-12 engine. This car was made in extremely limited numbers, with about 45 in 1961. She was a collector item the moment she rolled out of Maranello.
A replica 1960 250 GT California Spyder was, as you remember, the car driven by Mathew Broderick in the 1986 John Hughes classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
