Red Card What?

Posted December 30, 2008 – 11:12 pm in: Sport, random interests

So, there I am reading the headlines in Yahoo! Sport and there is a title for “Player sets unwanted record with three-second dismissal”, so of course I have to click it to see what it’s about.  Well… read on below, and just remember to laugh when you see the guys name!  LOL

Full Story: http://sports.yahoo.com

Player sets unwanted record with three-second dismissal

LONDON, Dec 29 (Reuters) - A player with English minor league club Chippenham Town has set a record for the fastest-red card in senior soccer when he was sent off for a wild tackle three seconds after kickoff, British media reported on Monday.

Striker David Pratt, 21, was dismissed in a Southern Premier League game against Bashley on Saturday.

The previous fastest sending-off is generally accepted to be 10 seconds for Bologna’s Giuseppe Lorenzo after he struck an opponent in a 1990 Italian league game.

English soccer’s previous “best” was 13 seconds when Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman handled outside his box in a game in 2000.

Also in 2000 an English amateur player, Lee Todd, was sent off after two seconds when he responded to the referee’s whistle to start the game by saying “xxxx me, that was loud” and was dismissed for foul and abusive language.

Bat in the House

Posted December 27, 2008 – 10:31 am in: family

2:30AM - I was woken up by a flap-flap-whoosh, there was a bat swooping about our room.  I woke JoAnn, and then I grabbed an LED flashlight and shone it at the rodent to attempt to drive it back into the living room.  This caused it to fly into Charlotte’s room!  I was able to hold the bat at bay with the flashlights beam - he hid on the curtains - until JoAnn had managed to rescue Charlotte!

I called Adirondack Dundee (Craig) - www.adirondackdundee.com - who asked if he could call me back when we was able to wake up.  He apparently fell asleep again (which he apologized for later), so didn’t call me back until about 4:30AM.

At this time I told him that the bat was in a closed room and that it wasn’t necessary that he come right away, so we arranged that he come in the morning.

The Bat9:00AM - Craig arrived and walked into Charlotte’s room and was out within 30-secs.  The animal was very lethargic, and he put it in his now empty Stewart’s Store coffee cup!

So after the capture, Craig and I walked around the outside of the house, and he pointed out possible entry points, and said that the bats had actually been in the house for a number of months.  I say bats here because after going into the attic he said that there is a paternal nest of 5 or 6 bats.  Thankfully there is no dropping mess to clean up in the attic.

So as a conclusion, seal your gaps and stop the bats!

What a fun start to the weekend.

Boxing Day Blues

Posted December 26, 2008 – 10:48 am in: miscellaneous

OK, so I’m now working through the Boxing Day Blues (wikipedia: Boxing Day), having done the gifts and all yesterday.  And it is only so many hours that one can go without being physically attached to a computer keyboard without having to fix something for someone!

On a possitive note, I’m going to try to get a co-op game of CoD: WaW going tonight with Dan Byron.  I played a little bit yesterday, and it looks like it will be really good in co-op play.

Christmas Day 2008

Posted December 25, 2008 – 9:59 am in: family

Good Morning and Blessings to you and your families on this special day.  In a small town in a manger was laid a new born child who would be called Immanuel, Lamb of God, Great Shepherd, Bread of Life, and Alpha and Omega.  This child was a gift from God, given because God so loved the world.

On this the morning of Christ’s birth, I reflect on what has been given to me.  JoAnn, Charlotte, my mother’s power over cancer, my father, my family, my friends, my work.  But of all these I thank Him for the love that He showed in giving a gift that would lead to eternal life.

Christmas is a time for love and peace.  I pray that you all have love and peace on this the brithday of Jesus.

Come Santa, Come!

Posted December 24, 2008 – 5:49 pm in: family

Common LoonWell, after playing the Call of Duty: World at War this morning for a while, and getting my butt seriously handed to be but what I’m sure was a 12 year old gaming punk, we decided to make a run to Hallmark and Hannaford.  It was a little crazy out and there was many folks in Hanaford.

In Hallmark I was just minding my own beeswax and came across this Common Loon Adirondack mug, and it simply just felt right to hold it up and display with my common loon mug!

Oh the joy of the cellphone camera and the ability to post to the social networks!

Afterwards, we drove to Granny and Poppa’s house to say hi (we are going there tomorrow for Christmas lunch and games).  I was good to stop in, and Charlotte has many presents there.  Christmas looks like it will be a good time!

So, on that note, “Come Santa, come!”  Our chimney is open and we are ready for you to stop by to bring gifts to our kin.

Additionally, I’d like to remind you all that even in this time of merchantile greed and free market economy, the REASON FOR THE SEASON is the Christ child, God’s gift to us.  Cherish this and know that agape love is from Him!

Getting into it…

Posted December 23, 2008 – 11:10 pm in: miscellaneous

…with this WordPress stuff.  I’ve added some new plugins that will allow some cooler stuff on the front end of the site.  And I’m moving the main domain to point to the blog.  I’m dumping the old site, and we’re going to go with this one only!

Let us know what you think.  I’m trying to get JoAnn to help out and post.  Should be fun!
